Horizon was The Carpenters' sixth studio album recorded in 1974-1975. The album contained such hits as "Only Yesterday", and "Please Mr. Postman", The Carpenters' third and last #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. This album was also the last Carpenters album to contain a top 10 hit.

Critical reception Edit

Horizon was received very well by fans and critics alike. In 1975, Stephen Holden, a music critic, reviewed Horizon, calling it their "most musically sophisticated album to date" that "smoothly adapts the spirit of mainstream Fifties pop to contemporary taste."[1]

Technological advances Edit

What separated Horizon from the albums preceding it was its superior usage of the recording technology at the time.

By this time, the A&M studios had 24-track recording (the Ticket to Ride album was recorded on eight tracks and the subsequent four albums on sixteen tracks). The additional tracks allowed us to record the acoustic piano, Rhodes, drums, etc. in stereo.
